Formerly the Department of Chinese of Wuzhou University, College of Literature and Communication was founded in April 2018. There are 68 full-time teachers, 6 of whom are professors, 17 associate professors and 2 visiting professors. With 10 teachers having doctoral degrees and 90% teachers having master’s degrees, plus rich teaching experience, the structure of educational background and professional title is reasonable. There are three professional teaching and research sections: Chinese language and literature, journalism and Chinese international education. At present, with more than 1,000 full-time students, there are three undergraduate majors: Chinese language and literature, journalism and Chinese international education, covering Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication. In particular, Chinese language and literature was identified in 2013 as a supporting discipline for the construction of master’s degree authorization. In 2017, Chinese international education was listed as the institutional discipline for the construction of professional master program. The College has established academic committee, teaching directing committee, degree evaluation committee and teaching supervision team.
With strong atmosphere of teaching and research, it has so far won two provincial and ministerial scientific research awards and 1 book was selected into the “University Humanities Academic Achievements Library” of the Ministry of Education. It has undertaken more than 100 teaching and scientific research projects at all level, including 8 National Social Science Fund Projects and 15 provincial and ministerial projects. In addition, it has published more than 10 academic monographs and textbooks, and more than 300 academic papers as well.
After 17 years of construction and development, the College has established five research platforms, including the key research base of humanities and social science in Guangxi universities, the high-level innovation team in Guangxi universities, and the Cultural Inheritance and Communication Research Center of the Xijiang River. Particularly, the Folk Literature Research Center of the Xijiang River Basin was listed in 2014 as the key research base of humanities and social sciences in Guangxi universities. Besides, the Literature Collation and Folk Word Research Innovation Team was also listed in 2014 as the first batch of high-level innovation team of Guangxi universities by the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. One was selected into the first group of Cultural Celebrities and Talents in the Territories of Theory, Press, Publishing, Literature and Art of Wuzhou City.
The College strives to give full play to the functions of talents cultivation, scientific research, social service and cultural inheritance. Together with the Publicity Department of CPC Wuzhou Municipal Committee, the College has established the College of Journalism and Communication. Additionally, the school has also established teaching, scientific research, practice and training bases with Radio and Television Bureau of Wuzhou, newspaper offices of Wuzhou Daily and Xijiang Metropolis Daily, etc.
With the characteristics of training talents who fit in with the needs of regional economic and social development, the College actively integrates into local cultural research and the cultivation of application-oriented talents of new liberal arts. Students’ professional abilities and comprehensive quality have been significantly improved through years of guidance and training. Students have won many awards in various national and provincial competitions, and a large number of innovation and entrepreneurship projects of college students have been approved. In the past 14 years, the school trained more than 3,000 talents of all kinds for the society, and the employment rate of graduates is more than 90%. Every year there are graduates who are admitted to postgraduate studies in national key universities. The College has become an important base of talents cultivation in Guangxi.
