Dated back to Wuzhou Normal Institute for Training in 1905, the cradle of Guangxi teacher education, College of Teacher Education (CTE) is the secondary college with the longest history in Wuzhou University. With the upgrading of the faculty talents training level, CTE has become Guangxi Teacher Education Base, Guangxi Key Raised Teacher Education Base, and Advanced Study and Training Locale of Guangxi’s First Young Pioneer Counselor Education. There are more than 1600 students allocated in 4 undergraduate majors (Primary School Education Major, Pre-school Education Major, Musicology Major, and Dance Major) and Pre-school Education Course in special course level.

CTE has a team of pioneering faculty with high political caliber and professional teaching and scientific research capability. There are total 74 full-time teachers, 82% of which are qualified at master’s degrees; 30% of the whole faculty is full professors or associate professors. In the past 3 years teachers in STE were awarded 2 provincial scientific research projects selection, 12 provincial teaching reforming projects selection, and publish nearly 100 teaching and scientific research academic papers. Besides, teachers in CTE win 1 international vocal competition, 2 state-level awards, and more than 20 city, departmental-level awards.

We attach great importance to talents cultivation and takes “Strengthening morality education” as our core mission. We keep improving the conditions and extending the resources for running the school. At present CTE possesses a set of systemic and well-equipped professional training rooms or laboratories, including Mandarin and Teacher’s Spoken Language Training Room, Psychological Teaching and Learning Lab, Calligraphy Drilling Training Room, Kindergarten education Simulation Training Room, Microteaching Class, Handicraft Training Room, Scientific Inquiry Training Room, and Dance Training Room. In addition, 280 odd pianos and a concert hall for teaching-learning and report-back performances.

CTE pays much attention to the practical skills of normal students, so it builds practical teaching and learning Bases together with 10 more educational organizations, including Wuzhou First Kindergarten and Wuzhou Gongchang Road Primary School. Besides, since Wuzhou University is located in Pearl River-West River Economic Belt, CTE builds more than 20 extramural practical training bases successively in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhujiang and Naning to provide facilities for undergraduate’s practical training, social practice and job obtaining.

The students guided by teachers in CTE get many state-level, provincial-level and city-level awards in provincial or even state-level education teaching and learning competitions and arts contests. In the past three years, the students in CTE get 47 state-level awards, 65 provincial-level awards, which make our graduates renowned with “Exquisite professions and well-knit basic skills”. The employment rate of our graduates is above 90% in recent 3 years.

The historical development

In 1905, Wuzhou Normal Institute for Training (first named Bingjing School), the foundation of Guangxi Normal education;

In 1908, Guangxi First Normal School (later named Sifu School, since sponsored by Wuzhou, Xunzhou, Yulin and pingle);

In 1913, Guangxi Provincial First Normal School (newly found and sponsored by Guangxi Province). Since it was the earliest founding one, it was named Guangxi Provincial First Normal School, later Guangxi Provincial Second Normal School was found in Guilin, and Guangxi Provincial Third Normal School was found in Nanning;

In 1938, Xuwuyu Normal School (settled in Ziliang, Rong County because of War of Resistance against Japan;

In 1947, Guangxi Provincial Wuzhou Normal School (Xuwuyu Normal School was divided back to its own locale, so the students in Wuzhou were settled in Wuzhou);

In 1949, Guangxi Provincial Wuzhou Normal School, formed by Wuzhou Female Normal School, Cangwu prefectural Normal School, Cenxi Normal School, and Guiping Normal School;

In 1950, renamed as Wuzhou Normal School

In 1953, moved to Sanyun Country to run the school;

In 1979, moved to the top of Hudie Hill (the former location of district of Guangxi University) to run the school; Wuzhou Normal School has great reputation, which cultivated thousands of teaching talents. In 1988 it was awarded as national advanced normal school; in 1991, it was estimated as “Excellence” in secondary normal school running school standard evaluation; in 1999, it was approved and chosen as “China secondary normal school” by Ministry of Education;

In 2003, teaching training division of Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch Campus (In October, former Wuzhou Education School, Wuzhou Normal School were emerged into Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch Campus, and Wuzhou University was prepared to be found);

In 2006, Department of Teacher Education of Wuzhou University (Wuzhou University was approved to be set up on the basis of Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch Campus in February, and Department of Teacher Education was founded in September);

In 2008, approved to found the first Guangxi Teacher Education Base;

In 2011, approved to found Guangxi Key Raised Teacher Education Base;

In 2012, approved to found Guangxi’s first Advanced Study and Training Locale of Guangxi’s First Young Pioneer Counselor Education;

In 2014, founded Normal College on the basis of Department of Teacher Education;

In 2018, renamed as College of Teacher Education responded to college and department adjustment.
