Wuzhou University started in 1985 as Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch. In October 2003 Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch merged Wuzhou Institute of Education and Wuzhou Normal College and became the new Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch. In February 2006,the then Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch was granted degreea-warding powers and became Wuzhou University, a general comprehensive university, which is under the management of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The University is located in the city of Wuzhou, whichenjoys honorary titles of "an Ancient City of More Than 2000 Years of History","a Trading Port of More Than 100 Years of History"and“the world’s capital city of synthetic gems”. Wuzhou, whereGuangxi University was built in 1928,is the birthland of higher education in Guangxi.

The University covers an area of 853,000 square meters, while the floorage occupies 475,000 square meters. The campus is surrounded by mountains and rivers and is a pleasant place for study and living.
